How To Prepare For A Fitness Photo Shoot
A video resource to help you prepare for your individual fitness photo shoot.
Being that I've photographed hundreds of fitness shoots over the last 6 years, part of my job is to help my individual session clients be prepared for the big day.
"What do I need to bring? What do I need to wear? Is there anything I need to do???"
These are all questions I've heard a million times and wanted to create a simple resource to help people find their answers.
I've developed a list of major points that will help anyone plan and be ready, whether it's your first time or if you're an experienced fitness model.
Christian Guzman Photoshoot with Brandon Wells
Photoshoot at Alphalete Gym with Christian Guzman.
I recently had a shoot with Christian Guzman at Alphalete Gym in Houston.
Christian and I wanted to get together to create some unique shots in his gym using fire & smoke, in a way that hasn't been used before, especially at Alphalete.
Here's an awesome behind-the-scenes video of our shoot filmed by Lawrence Lee:
Had a great time and was excited with what we created. Here's a few select favorites:

Using a Rain Machine with Fitness Photography
Using a rain machine to make epic fitness photographs
I've been wanting to create a series of some athletes training outdoors, while battling Mother Nature herself.
My idea was to construct a rain machine, so that I could execute this idea the most efficiently. I partnered up with the good people over at FringeSport to make this happen.
In Texas, the weather can be all over the place. 9am could be a beautiful morning with a blissful sunrise, and by 1pm there's a storm. So I knew I had to create the environment with what was available to us.
I planned this shoot around the weather to the best of the forecasts abilities. We settled on a week in mid April, where it was supposed to be overcast/raining for the entirety of the week. Unfortunately, the day we picked just happened to clear up within an hour of setup.
I ended up having to do some work in post to pull the images to life, but I still quite enjoyed the turnout.
Thanks to Nick Bare and Taylor Dayne for modeling this shoot!

Shane Fazen of Fight Tips
Shooting with Shane Fazen of Fight Tips.
Shane and I have been meaning to shoot for a while, and our schedules finally aligned to make it happen.
Shane recently reached a HUGE benchmark of 1 MILLION Youtube subscribers and also created a fight scene project, breaking a world record of an ongoing choreographed fight scene length of over 7 minutes total.
It was a pleasure to shoot with him down in Redondo Beach, CA. I hope you enjoy what we created.
